Lee Daniels is an American director, producer and screenwriter. His first producer credit was Monster's Ball, thanks to which he became the first African-American film producer to produce only an Oscar-winning film, when Halle Berry won the award for best actress. After Shadowboxer made his Toronto International Film Festival debut, Daniels directed Precious, based on the novel Push. The film was nominated for six Oscars, including two for Daniels. In 2013, he directed Lee Daniels' The Butler, a television series that tells the story of an African-American butler who served in the White House for seven presidential terms. In 2015, Daniels co-created and directed Fox's Empire, and served as an executive producer for all six seasons.
