Born in Trenton, Texas, Mangrum became a professional golfer in the country. at the age of fifteen, working as an assistant to his brother Ray, the head of the Cliff-Dale country club in Dallas He joined the PGA Tour in 1937 and won 36 Tour events. money if his career was not interrupted by serving in World War II.
