Lord Charles Beresford
Charles William de la Poer Beresford, First Baron Beresford, baptized Lord Charles Beresford between 1859 and 1916, was the admiral of England and a member of Parliament. Beresford was the second son of John Beresford, the 4th Marquis of Waterford, so despite the title of the youngest son of a Marquis, he still qualified to enter the House of Representatives. He combined naval and MP careers, building a reputation as a combat hero and naval champion in the House of Representatives. He was a popular figure and flirted by the public, known to the British public as "Charlie B". Many consider him the embodiment of John Bull, actually often accompanied by his signature, a bulldog poodle. His later career was marked by a lengthy debate with Fleet Admiral Sir John Fisher over reforms Fisher advocated to introduce new technology and override traditional practices.
