Luis Federico Leloir is an Argentinian physician and biochemist who received the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1970. Although born in France, Leloir studied largely at the University of Buenos Aires and is director of a private research group. The team of the Fundación Instituto Campomar until his death in 1987. Although its laboratories often have difficulties due to lack of financial support and equipment ratios, its research on sugar nucleotides, carbohydrate metabolism and renal hypertension have gained worldwide attention and fame and have led to significant advances in the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of congenital galactosemia. Luis Leloir is buried at La Recoleta cemetery, Buenos Aires.
