Lydia Koidula
Lydia Emilie Florence Jannsen, better known by pen name Lydia Koidula, is an Estonian poet. Its nickname means "Lydia of the Dawn" in Estonian. It was given to him by writer Carl Robert Jakobson. She is also commonly referred to as Koidulaulik - "The Singer of Dawn". In Estonia, as elsewhere in Europe, writing was not considered a suitable profession for a respectable young woman in the mid-19th century. Koidula's poetry and her journalism work for her populist father, Johann Voldemar Jannsen, remain anonymous. Despite this, she was a major literary figure, the founder of Estonian theater, and closely allied with Carl Robert Jakobson, the radical influencer, and Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald, the writer of the Estonian national epic, Kalevipoeg.
