Malcolm Alexander Allison is an English football player and coach. Nicknamed "Big Mal", he is one of the most glamorous and attractive characters in English football due to his playfulness, his hat and his cigars, the controversies on the pitch and his simplicity. Allison's managerial potential became evident at a young age at West Ham United, where he became a reliable defender and acted as a mentor to young players, including the England captain, future champion of the World Cup, Bobby Moore. His career was cut short in 1958 when he suffered a pulmonary amputation due to tuberculosis. As a coach, he is remembered for helping coach Joe Mercer transform the team he supported in his youth - Manchester City. During the 1960s and early 1970s, Allison won six major honors in seven years with Mercer. After Mercer left, he managed the club twice while providing his management services for the third time in 1989 .
