Martin Amis
Martin Louis Amis is an English novelist, essayist, memoirist and screenwriter. He is best known for his novel Money and The Field of London. Amis was Professor of Creative Writing at the New Writing Center at the University of Manchester until 2011. In 2008, The Times named him one of Britain's 50 greatest writers since 1945. The work of Friends focuses on the excesses of "late capitalist" Western society, where he often sarcastic the absurdity through grotesque caricatures; he has been described as a master of what the New York Times has called "a new discomfort". Inspired by Saul Bellow and Vladimir Nabokov, as well as his father Kingsley Amis, it was Friends who influenced many late 20th and early 21st century British novelists, including Will Self and Zadie Smith.
