Martin Gerald Sherman is a renowned American screenwriter and screenwriter with 20 plays produced in over 60 countries. He gained fame in 1979 for his production of the play Bent, on the persecution of homosexuals during the Holocaust. Bent was nominated for Tony for Best Play in 1980 and won the Hull-Warriner Award from the Dramatists Association. It was adapted by Sherman for a big movie in 1997, then adapted by independent sources for a ballet in Brazil. Sherman is an openly gay Jew, and many of his works have dramatized "viewers", addressing discrimination and even marginalization of "gay, male, female, foreign, disabled, religious, class or colored" minorities. He has lived and worked in London since 1980.
