His literary works are often in the sci-fi, technology thriller and medical fiction genre, and have a strong focus on technology. Many of his novels have a medical or scientific basis, reflecting his medical training and scientific background. Crichton received his MD from Harvard Medical School in 1969 but did not practice medicine; instead, he chose to focus on writing. Originally written under a pseudonym, he eventually wrote 26 novels, including The Andromeda Strain, The Terminal Man, The Great Train Robbery, Congo, Sphere, Jurassic Park, The Rising Sun, Revealing, Lost World, Airframe, Timeline, Prey, Bang of Fear, and beyond.
