Naomi Shihab Nye is a poet, composer and novelist. She was born to a Palestinian father and an American mother. She began composing her first poem at the age of six and has published or contributed to over 30 volumes. His works include poetry, children's novels, photo books and novels. Although she calls herself a "wandering poet," she considers San Antonio her home. She said visiting her grandmother in the West Bank village of Sinjil had changed her life. Nye received the 2013 NSK Neustadt Prize for Children's Literature in honor of her comprehensive work as a writer, and in 2019 the Poetry Foundation nominated her as the recipient of the Human Poet Prize. Youth for the period 2019–21.
