Nicolaus Copernicus

Nicolaus Copernicus was a Renaissance Catholic mathematician, astronomer, and canonist who built a cosmic model that placed the Sun, not the Earth, at its center. In all likelihood, Copernicus developed his model independently of Aristarchus of Samos, an ancient Greek astronomer who had come up with such a model eighteen centuries earlier. The publication of Copernicus' model in his book De Revutionibus orbium coelestium, shortly before his death in 1543, was a major event in the history of science, sparking the Copernic revolution and pioneering a scientific revolution. Copernicus was born and died in the Royal Kingdom of Prussia, a region of the Kingdom of Poland since 1466. As a multilingual and multitalented man, he obtained a doctorate in canon law and was a mathematician, astronomer, physician, and scholar, false classics, translator, governor. , diplomats and economists.
