Paul Robert Thomson is a Scottish drummer from the Franz Ferdinand band in Glasgow. Thomson was always interested in music, able to play a wide variety of instruments such as guitar, keyboard and bass in addition to drums. In the late 1990s, he played drums for The Yummy Fur and at one point was part of The Purple Bajengas and Pro Forma. In The Yummy Fur, Thomson will meet Alex Kapranos. When The Yummy Fur broke up, Thomson had various odd jobs as a DJ and nude model at Glasgow School of the Arts. He is also a drummer in the group Glasgow Amor, alongside Luke Fowler, Richard Youngs and Michael Francis Duch. In 2001, Thomson joined Franz Ferdinand, originally playing the guitar. Then he switched to drums. He also accompanied and sang the lead vocals for the German version of "Tell Her Tonight" on the B-side of the single "Michael". The English version is by Franz Ferdinand. His label, NEW !, only releases vinyl records.
