Peter Albert David Singer is an Australian ethics philosopher, currently Ira W. DeCamp, Professor of Biological Ethics at Princeton University. He specializes in applied ethics and solves ethical problems from secular and pragmatic perspectives. He is particularly known for his book Animal Liberation, in which he advocates for vegetarianism and his essay "Hunger, Wealth and Morality", in which he advocates for donations to help the poor of the world. For most of his career he was a pragmatist, but he stated in The Universe's Point of View, co-authorized with Lazari-Radek's Katarzyna, that he had become a pragmatist. On two occasions, Singer was dean of the philosophy department at Monash University, where he founded the Center for Human Bioethics. In 1996, he failed as a Republican candidate for the Australian Senate. In 2004, Singer was recognized as Australian Humanist of the Year by the Council for Australian Human Societies.
