He is known as the father of the Modern Olympics. Born into a French aristocratic family, he became a scientist and studied many subjects including education and history. He graduated in law and public affairs from the Institut d'études politiques de Paris. It was at Sciences Po that he had the idea for the Summer Olympics. The Pierre de Coubertin medal is an award awarded by the International Olympic Committee to athletes who demonstrate their sportsmanship at the Olympic Games.
