He created, wrote and starred in the drafting show The League of Gentlemen, starring Steve Pemberton, Mark Gatiss and Jeremy Dyson. He and Pemberton also created, wrote, and starred in the black comedy series Psychoville. The couple are currently writing the screenplay and staring in the Inside No. 9 series of them, where Shearsmith plays many characters. He has had notable roles in Spaced, The World's End and Doctor Who "Sleep No More", as well as minor appearances in Shaun of the Dead.
