Richard Whalley Anthony Curtis is an English screenwriter, producer and director. As one of Britain's most successful comedy writers, he is best known for his romantic comedies including Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones's Diary, Love Actually, Bridget. Jones: The Edge of Reason, About Time and Yesterday. He is also known for the drama War Horse, as well as co-author of the popular sitcoms Blackadder, Mr. Bean and The Vicar of Dibley. Early in his career he wrote papers for the BBC's Not the Nine O'Clock News and ITV's Spitting Image. In 2007 Curtis received the BAFTA Academy Award, the highest honor bestowed on a filmmaker by the British Academy of Film. At the 2008 Britannia Awards, Curtis received a BAFTA Humanitarian Award for co-creating Comic Relief and his contributions to other charitable causes. In 2008, he was ranked 12th on The Telegraph's "100 Most Powerful People in British Culture" list.
