Rigoberta Menchú Tum is a Guatemalan human rights activist and feminist with K'iche roots. Menchú has spent his life publicizing the rights of indigenous people in Guatemala during and after the civil war in Guatemala and promoting indigenous rights around the world. She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992 and the Prince of Asturias Prize in 1998, among other prestigious awards. She is the subject of the Approval Biography I, Rigoberta Menchú and author of the autobiography Crossing the Border, among other works. Menchú is a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. She ran for president of Guatemala in 2007 and 2011, after forming the country's first indigenous political party, Winaq.
