Robert Cooper Grier, is an American attorney who has served at the US Supreme Court. Pennsylvania Democrat Jacksonian, who served between 1846 and 1870, Grier pondered some of the most important 19th century cases. As the rare member of the North who dominated the infamous Dred Scott decision of 1857, Grier agrees that African Americans are not and never are considered citizens of the United States and that the property rights of landowners are he slaves are clearly protected by the US Constitution. However, Grier wrote the majority opinion in the Prize Cases of 1863, confirming Abraham Lincoln's presidency in implementing the blockade of Union ports and giving the Union Army a strategic advantage in the American Civil War.
