Roger Angell is an American essayist famous for his writings on sports, especially baseball. He is a frequent contributor to The New Yorker and editor of its novels for many years. He has written many fiction, non-fiction and criticism, and for many years he has written an annual Christmas poem for The New Yorker. He has received several awards for his writing, including the George Polk Prize for Commentary in 1980, the Kenyon Award for Literary Achievement 2005 with Umberto Eco and the PEN Lifetime Achievement Award / ESPN first for Writing Sports Literature in 2011.. He was elected an associate of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2007 and is a permanent member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Authors. Angell was introduced to the Eternal Baseball Hall of Fame Beliequary in 2010. He was named the 2014 JG Taylor Spink Award recipient by the American Association of Baseball Writers on December 10, 2013.
