Russell Tyrone Jones, known by his stage name Ol 'Dirty Bastard, is an American rapper and producer. He was one of the founding members of the Wu-Tang Clan, a rap group primarily from Staten Island, New York City, which rose to fame with their 1993 debut album Enter the Wu-Tang. His professional success has been hampered by frequent legal problems, including incarceration. He died on November 13, 2004 from an accidental drug overdose, two days before his 36th birthday. Ol 'Dirty Bastard is known for "overly vulgar and free-association rhymes conveyed in a distinctive half-rap, half-singing style." Its stage name is derived from the 1980 Chinese martial arts movie Ol 'Dirty and the Bastard.
