Born in Adenau in a family of hotels and restaurants, and raised in one of the villages nestled on the Nürburgring, she first trained to join the profession with her parents, before choosing to embark on the racing, working as a driver for BMW and Porsche. She is known to be a Nürburgring racing expert, having won two enduring races during her racing career on the track, and became a TV hit after her debut. Appeared on the BBC's Top Gear, appearing periodically alongside some of the show's speakers. Schmitz died of cancer in March 2021, at the age of 51, following a diagnosis at the end of 2017.
