Sammy Wanjiru
Samuel Kamau Wanjiru is a Kenyan long-distance runner. He set the current youth world record of 10,000 meters in 2005 and set a triple world record in the half marathon. He switched to a full marathon and won the 2008 Beijing Olympics with an Olympic record time of 2:06:32; became the first Kenyan to win an Olympic gold medal in a marathon. He became the youngest marathon gold medalist since 1932. The following year, he won both the London Marathon and the Chicago Marathon, running the fastest recorded marathons in the UK and the US respectively. He kept his Chicago title in 2010 during a heavy season due to injury. In 2011, he died of a fall from a balcony at his home in Nyahururu after a marriage dispute.
