Zagreb's first skyscraper was conceived and erected by a Croatian architect. Following World War II, he worked on the rehabilitation of Nama department shops in Croatia, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but was forced to switch to the Bureau of Architecture project in 1946 by the Communist authorities.
