Ulrike Mertesacker is a German former professional handball player. She played for several top-flight handball clubs and the German national team in her seven years as a professional. Since 2011 she has resided in London with her husband, Arsenal Academy manager and retired footballer Per Mertesacker, and last played for amateur side Thames Handball Club.
Female handballer from Germany who won the DHB-Cup three consecutive years from 2006 to 2008. She won the bronze medal at the World Women's Handball Championships.
She was born in Oschatz and began playing for HC Leipzig in 1998.
She retired from handball in 2010 upon learning that she was pregnant.
She married German soccer player Per Mertesacker in June 2013. They have two children.
