A film buff from a young age, Lenzi studied at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and made his first film in 1958 which was not released, while his film officially debuted in 1961 with Queen of the Seas. Lenzi's films of the 1960s followed popular trends of the time, leading to him directing a number of erotic horror and spy films. He followed in the 1970s by directing the first giallo, detective film, and the first Italian cannibalism with Man from the Deep River. He continued to make films until the 1990s, then worked as a novelist on a series of murder mysteries.
