The Waveformator is a design of supersonic aircraft that improves the ratio of lift to its supersonic drag by using the shock waves generated by its flight as the lifting surface, a phenomenon called compressive lift. The generator remains a well-studied design for high-speed supersonic Mach 5 or higher aircraft, although no such design has yet entered production. The Boeing X-51A demonstration aircraft was tested from 2010 to 2013. During the last test flight, it reached a speed of Mach 5.1.
