William Friedkin was an American director, producer and screenwriter associated with the 'New Hollywood' movement in the 1970s. Starting his career as a documentary in the early 1960s, he is perhaps best known. as the director of the action thriller The French Connection, has won five Academy Awards, including Best Film, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director, and supernatural thriller The Exorcist brought in the Oscar nomination for Best Director. His other films include The Boys in the Band, suspense thriller Sorcerer, controversial crime film Cruising, action thriller To Live and Die in LA, psychological thriller Bug and comedy.
