Edward Gottlieb is a Ukrainian professional basketball coach and executive. Nicknamed "Mr. Basketball" and "The Mogul", he was the first coach and manager of the Philadelphia Warriors of the National Basketball Association, and since then has owned the team since 5. 1951-1962. Originally from Kiev, Ukraine , he was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a contributor on April 20, 1972. NBA Rookie Award of the Year, Eddie Gottlieb Trophy, which bears his name. Gottlieb organized and played for the South Philadelphia Jewish Association teams in the 1920s. He was in charge of the semi-pro baseball team in Philadelphia, sponsored and partially owned the Philadelphia Stars Black League, and placed schedule for Philadelphia Stars Black National League. He also helps coordinate the Harlem Globetrotters' overseas tours.
