Albert John Bakunas, Jr, also known as A.J. Bakunas is a stuntman who died twice for George Kennedy in a fall from Kincaid Tower in Lexington, Kentucky for the Steel movie. Born in Fort Lee, New Jersey, Bakunas quit his career as a gym teacher at Tenafly High School in 1974 and decided to move into the film business. He did his first stunts for the 1975 film Afternoon Dog Day. The Bakunas are known for their skillful high falls. Bakunas set the world record for a 70.1-meter fall from a helicopter for the film Hooper, which was beaten by Dar Robinson's 87.2-meter fall due to a stunt that was not openly not related to the film. Bakunas, determined to take the record back, returns to Lexington to jump 96 meters from the 22nd floor of a construction site, where he had managed to bring down nine floors earlier. On September 21, 1978, as his father and a crowd of around 1,000 watched, Bakunas performed the fall, reaching an estimated speed of 115 miles per hour.
