Barbara Jean McNair is an American singer, theater, television, and film actress. McNair's career spanned more than five decades, appearing on television, film and theater. McNair's professional career began in music in the late 1950s, singing in nightclubs. In 1958, McNair released the first single "Till There Was You" from Coral Records, a commercial success. McNair performed around the world, on tour with Nat King Cole and later in his Broadway shows I'm with You and Nat King Cole's The Merry World in the early 1960s. gradually turned to cinema and television; she played Sidney Poitier's wife in They Call Me Mister Tibbs! and its sequel, The Organization. In his later years, McNair returned to performing at a nightclub and on a cruise ship. McNair died of nasopharyngeal cancer on February 4, 2007 at the age of 72
