Brian Browne is a Canadian pianist and jazz composer. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Browne moved to Ottawa as a teenager and competed professionally at the age of eighteen. Although largely self-taught, Browne attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and later studied with Oscar Peterson at the Peterson Advanced Contemporary Music School in Toronto. Browne became famous on the Canadian jazz scene in the early 1960s, performing at famous jazz venues in Ottawa and Toronto, and appearing on the national weekly shows Adventures in Rhythm, The Browne Beat. , Nightcap, Canadian Jazz and others. His band, Brian Browne Trio, performed as a family band on CTV's variety show The River Inn. In 1969, Browne appeared as one of four star pianists, including Bill Evans, Erroll Garner and Marian McPartland, on the special TV show The Jazz Piano.
