Having starred in around 300 movies and TV series, he is widely regarded as one of the most important Turkish actors of all time. His films shown abroad earned him the name George Arkin. Arkın's films range from well-received dramas to simulation films throughout his four-decade career. Early in his career, Arkın was known for starring in historical films set in the early centuries of the Ottoman Empire and the Anatolian Seljuks, such as Malkoçoğlu Cem Sultan and Battal Gazi. . While having had great success with such action movies, he also appeared in political films in the late 1970s, most famously Remzi Aydın Jöntürk's The Adam Trilogy. Arkın and Jöntürk continued to collaborate on many other films. Cüneyt Arkın and Fatma Girik are among the most famous partners of Turkish cinema Yeşilçam.
