Howard Zinn is an American historian, playwright, philosopher and thinker. He served as director of the history and social sciences at Spelman University and professor of political science at Boston University. Zinn has written more than 20 books, including the best-selling and most influential book A People's History of the United States in 1980. In 2007, he published a version for young readers, A Young People's History of the United States. Zinn describes himself as “something anarchist, something socialist. Maybe a democratic socialist ”. He has written extensively on the civil rights movement, the anti-war movement, and labor history in the United States. His memoir, You Can Ve be Neutral on a Moving Train, is also the title of a 2004 documentary on the life and work of Zinn. Zinn died of a heart attack in 2010 at the age of 87
