Joseph Patrick Mullen is a former professional American ice hockey player. He played 16 seasons in the National Hockey League with St. John's. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins from 1980 to 1997. He was a member of all three Stanley Cup championship teams, winning with the Flames in 1989 and the Penguins in 1991 and 1992. Mullen changed coaches during the year. 2000, worked as an assistant in Pittsburgh and briefly as head coach of Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins. He served as an assistant to the Philadelphia Flyers from 2007 to 2017. An amateur player, Mullen was an omnipotent star for the Boston College Eagles before turning professional in the Blues organization. He was named Rookie of the Year of the Central Hockey League in 1980 and Top Rated Player in 1981 as a member of the Salt Lake City Golden Eagle team. He has won the Lady Byng Memorial Cup as NHL's Most Elegant Player twice as a member of Flames, as well as the NHL Plus-Minus Prize.
