Juan Carlos Jiménez Rufino, known by his stage name La Mona Jiménez, is a singer of cuarteto music. He was born in Córdoba, Argentina. As a child, Jiménez often played the role of Tarzan with other children. His parents often tell him that he looks like Tarzan's companion, Cheeta. This is believed to be how he got the nickname La Mona. He started singing with Cuarteto Berna at the age of 15 after winning a competition among 40 other singers. With this group, he has recorded five albums. His first hit was La flaca Marta on the album Para toda América, released in 1984. His success allowed him to buy three new cars and a house in the capital, Cerro de Las Rosas, while paying off a mortgage. During his 40-year musical career, Jiménez has recorded over 85 CDs and sold over 36 million copies across Argentina. His 62nd CD, entitled Beso a beso con La Mona, has sold over 100,000 copies in Cordoba alone.
