Melvin Farr is an American football player and businessman. Originally from Beaumont, Texas, Farr played college football as a defender for the 1965 and 1966 UCLA Bruins football teams, ranking 4th and 5th in AP's latest polls, respectively. It was selected as the first American team by consensus in 1966, achieved over 1,000 meters in scrum in 1965 and 1966, and was introduced into UCLA's Avenue of Fame in 1988. Farr was portrayed by the Detroit Lions in the first round, seventh overall, in the 1967 NFL Draft and played for seven years as a back runner for the Lions. He led the Lions in both diving and catching in 1967, totaling 1,177 yards from the screenplay as a rookie, and was selected as the NFL Rookie of the Year. He was selected twice to play the Pro Bowl, in 1967 and 1970 .
