Paloma Herrera is a renowned Argentinian ballet dancer, choreographer and artistic director who served as the lead dancer at the American Ballet Theater, where she has worked for 24 years. She is currently the director of the Colon Theater Ballet. Herrera was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and began studying ballet there at the age of seven with teacher Olga Ferri. She quickly became a recognized prodigy in South America, won numerous cross-cutting competitions and was able to continue training at the Minsk Ballet School in the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic; Back in Buenos Aires, she was chosen as the Cupid god during the Don Quixote show at the Teatro Colón. With her growing reputation, Herrera was invited by Natalia Makarova to study at the British National Ballet Theater in London.
