Paul Howard Manship is an American sculptor. He continually created classical works of mythology and was a major driving force in the Art Deco movement. He is best known for important public commissions, including the Prometheus logo at the Rockefeller Center and the Celestial Sphere Woodrow Wilson Monument in Geneva, Switzerland. Also credited with designing the modern interpretation of the Official Seal of New York City, Manship is famous early in his career for rejecting the Fine Arts movement and prefers linear works with simple flow. Additionally, he shared a summer home in Plainfield, New Hampshire, part of the Cornish Art Colony, with William Zorach for several years. Other members of the highly social colony were also contemporary artists.
