Raúl Ramón Mondesí Avelino is a former Dominican politician, former mayor of San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic, and a former professional baseball rights athlete. He has played in Major League Baseball for 13 seasons, mainly for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and made his MLB debut with them in 1993. He was the 1994 Championship Rookie, an All-MLB star and twice. Rawlings Gold Gloves Award winner. Known for its combination of strength and speed, Mondesí led the club twice by 30–30. Also known for his powerful throwing arm, he has led his league's good players in assists three times while scoring over 100 points in his career. After baseball, Mondesí began his political career, elected to the House of Representatives in 2006. In 2010 he became mayor of San Cristóbal for a 6-year term. On September 20, 2017, Mondesí was sentenced to eight years in prison for corruption.
