Astrology Birth Chart of Steve Reich

Stephen Michael Reich is an American composer known for his contributions to the development of music which were minimal in the mid to late 1960s. Reich's work is marked by the use of repeated metrics, repetition, rhythm and slow harmonic rhythm. His innovations include the use of tape loops to create phased patterns, as in the original compositions It's Gonna Rain and Come Out, and the use of simple, easy-to-hear processes, as on Pendulum Music and Four Organs. The 1978 music for 18 musicians would help transform minimalism into movement. Reich's work took on a darker character in the 1980s with the introduction of historical themes as well as themes from his Jewish heritage, particularly The Various Trains. Reich's writing style has influenced many contemporary composers and groups, especially in the United States. Writing in The Guardian, music critic Andrew Clements said that Reich was one of "the few living composers who could claim to have literally changed the course of music history".

In 2009, he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in Music for his composition"Double Sextet". In the 1960s, he established himself as a minimalist pioneer by employing tape loops to generate phrasing patterns in songs such as"It's Gonna Rain".
