Bruce David Grobbelaar is a former Zimbabwean professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper, mainly for England Liverpool from 1981 to 1994 and for the Zimbabwe national team. He is remembered for his athletic abilities like gymnastics, his unwavering confidence and wacky and flamboyant playing style. He has been the goalkeeping coach for the Ottawa Fury FC at the North American Football Championship since 2014. In March 2018, he was announced as the goalkeeping coach for the Matabeleland football team. Born in South Africa, Grobbelaar grew up in neighboring Rhodesia and served in the Rhodesian Army before joining the Vancouver Whitecaps of the North American Football League in 1979. He came to the attention when Liverpool on loan to Crewe Alexandra in season 1979-1980. , and signed with the Merseyside club in 1981 .
