David Bing is a former professional basketball player of the American Hall of Fame, the mayor of Detroit, Michigan, and an entrepreneur. After playing at Syracuse University, Bing played 12 seasons in the National Basketball Association as a point guard for the Detroit Pistons, Washington Bullets and the Boston Celtics. During his career, he averaged over 20 points and six assists per game and made seven appearances at the NBA All-Star Game, winning the game's Most Valuable Player award in 1976.
