Frederik George Pohl Jr is an American science fiction writer, editor, and fan, with a career spanning nearly 75 years - from his first published work, the 1937 poem "Elegy to a Dead Satellite: Luna ", to the 2011 novel All the life he led. Between 1959 and 1969, Pohl edited Galaxy and its sister magazine If; then won three consecutive annual Hugo awards as best professional magazine of the year. His 1977 novel Gateway won four "Best Novel of the Year" awards: Hugo by conference attendees, Locus by magazine subscribers, Nebula by writers, American science fiction voted and the academic award. John W. Campbell. He again won the Campbell Memorial Prize for his 1984 collection of city fiction in 1984, being one of two consecutive winners in his first 40 years. For his 1979 novel Jem, Pohl won the US National Book of the Year award in the Science Fiction category and he was a finalist for all three awards for best novel of the year other.
