Haile Selassie I was Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974. Prior to his coronation, he was Governor General of Ethiopia from 1916. He is an important figure in the modern history of Ethiopia. He was a member of the Solomon Islands dynasty, which descended from Emperor Menelik I.
