James Forman
James Forman is a prominent African-American leader in the civil rights movement. He has served on the Nonviolent Student Coordinating Committee, the Black Panther Party, and the Revolutionary Black Workers Federation. As SNCC's Executive Secretary from 1961 to 1966, Forman played a pivotal role in the Free Races, the Albany Movement, the Birmingham Campaign and the Selma Marches in Montgomery. After the 1960s, Forman spent the rest of his adult life organizing blacks around issues of social and economic equality. He has also taught at American Universities and other major institutions. He has written a number of books documenting his experiences in the movement and its burgeoning political philosophy, including Sammy Younge Jr .: The first black college student to die in the liberation movement.
