Jonathan Daniels
Jonathan Myrick Daniels is an episcopal seminarian and a civil rights activist. In 1965, he was assassinated by a special subdistrict, Tom Coleman, a construction worker, in Hayneville, Alabama, while arming 17-year-old Ruby Sales. He saved the life of a young black civil rights activist. Both worked in the Lowndes County Civil Rights Movement to integrate into public places and register black voters after the Voting Rights Act was passed that summer. Daniels' death added support to the civil rights movement. In 1991 Daniels was appointed a martyr of the Episcopal Church and is recognized annually in its calendar.
