Loretta Mae Long is an American actress, vocalist, singer, communicator and educator. She has played the role of Susan Robinson on Sesame Street since her debut in 1969. Long earned her doctorate. at Urban Education in 1973 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst while performing on Sesame Street. She has appeared in musicals and appeared on the Flip Wilson Show alongside the other members of the Sesame Street cast during her debut season. During her early years, she voiced a number of female Muppet voices, including Roosevelt Franklin's mother, Suzetta, and other Muppets, where female voices were needed. The characters of Long, Susan and Bob are the only two non-puppeteers remaining on Sesame Street since the first episode before they were removed from the series in 2015, when Will Lee died in 1982. In addition to playing on Sesame Street, Long is a public consultant and speaker on multicultural and educational issues.
