Paul Samuel 'Pops' Whiteman is an American band, songwriter, conductor and violinist. Leader of one of America's most famous dance groups of the 1920s and early 1930s, Whiteman produced records that were hugely successful and was often referred to in the press as "King of the Jazz". His most famous recordings include "Whis then", "Valencia", "Three O'Clock in the Morning", "In a Little Spanish Town" and "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers". Whiteman led an often large group and explored a variety of musical styles, such as symphonic and jazz fusion, as shown on George Gershwin's debut album, Rhapsody in Blue. Whiteman has recorded numerous jazz and pop standards during his career, including "Wang Wang Blues", "Mississippi Mud", "Rhapsody in Blue", "Wonderful One", "Hot Lips", "Mississippi Suite", "Grand Canyon Suite" and "Trav'lin 'Light". He co-composed the 1925 classical jazz "Flamin 'Mamie".
