Sir Stanley Matthews, CBE is an English footballer playing on the right wing position. Often regarded as one of the greatest players in English football, he was the only one to be knighted while still playing, as well as the first to win the European Footballer of the Year award and The Writers Association's Best Player Award. . Matthews's nicknames include "Dribbling Magician" and "Magician". Matthews stayed in shape to play at the highest level until the age of 50. Matthews is also the oldest player to ever play in England's top football league and the oldest player to ever represent the country. He also led the opening ceremony of the English Football Hall of Fame in 2002 to honor his contributions to English football. He spent 19 years for Stoke City, playing for the Potters from 1932 to 1947, and again from 1961 to 1965. He helped Stoke win the Second Division championship between 1932–33 and 1962–63.
