Alan Rubin
Alan Rubin, also known as Mr. Fabulous, is an American musician. He plays the trumpet, bugle and piccolo. Rubin began attending the Juilliard School of Music in New York at the age of 17 and studied with William Vacchiano, who was the trumpet principal of the New York Philharmonic. Vacchiano described Rubin as his best student. At Juilliard, Rubin was invited to perform with Paul Hindemith on his last US tour, but Rubin chose to perform with Peggy Lee at Village Vanguard. Rubin left Juilliard at the age of 20 to tour with singer Robert Goulet as the lead trumpeter. Rubin was a member of the Saturday Night Live Band, whom he performed at the closing ceremony of the 1996 Olympics. As a member of the Blues Brothers, he played Mr. Fabulous in the 1980 film, 1998 sequel and is a member of the tour group. The nickname "Mr. Fabulous" was given to Rubin by John Belushi.
